Equipment DNA™

Every listing on Equip Place gets a unique DNA profile — a consistent, side-by-side score of the things buyers actually care about. Instead of reading through dozens of specs, you understand in seconds what a machine is built for and whether it fits your work.

What is Equipment DNA™ — and how do I read it?

Two machines can look identical on a spec sheet and be completely different on the job. Equipment DNA™ gives every listing one consistent profile — eight traits scored 0–100 against the class average, a beginner-to-contractor skill scale, and the jobs the machine is actually built for.

How to read it (in the video): 1. Open any listing and scroll to the DNA panel. 2. Scan the eight trait bars — 50 is class average, and on maintenance cost a higher score means cheaper to run. 3. Check the skill scale and tagged applications to see if it's right-sized for your crew and your work.

  • One yardstick

Every machine scored the same way, so listings compare apples to apples.

  • Plain-English read

A short summary of what the machine is good at and who it suits.

  • Right-sized iron

Beginner-friendly through contractor-grade on a single honest scale.

  • Always current

Scores are cached per machine and re-run when a dealer updates the specs.

Real work output per hour for its size class.

Reliability

Durability of this model, adjusted for age, hours and condition.

Ease of transport

How easy it is to haul legally — weight, width, trailer needs.

Resale strength

How well this brand and model hold value.

Beginner-friendly → Contractor-grade

Every profile places the machine on one scale: an easy first machine for a small crew, or a production machine built for daily contractor work. No guessing whether you're buying too much iron — or not enough.

Best applications

Landscaping, paving, utilities, farming, demolition, excavation, roadwork, snow removal, forestry, material handling and more — tagged on every listing so you can match the machine to the job you actually bid.

How it's built

Equipment DNA™ reads the make, model, year, hours, condition and technical specs of a listing and scores it against how that machine is known to perform in the field. Scores are cached per machine, so the same iron always reads the same way — and re-runs automatically when a dealer updates the specs. DNA scores are AI estimates to help you shortlist faster; they are not an inspection or an appraisal.
